Exoskeleton: A possibility in the textile world

It is with great pride that the CTT Group and the Composites Development Center of Quebec (CDCQ) have joined forces to work on an applied research project with Mawashi Science and Technology, in collaboration with Mat-Comp and École Polytechnique Montréal.

Today ‘Net shape’ manufacturing technologies, such as tailored fiber placement and the use of custom fixtures, have been used to produce complex composite material parts for human performance enhancement.

The technology demonstrator has achieved a good potential for mass reduction, reducing material waste, lowering production costs while maintaining good mechanical strength.

A good synergy and complementarity of the technology transfer centers was the key to the implementation of this exoskeleton project.

Highlights of this project will be presented at 2 upcoming conferences:

• CAMX (Anaheim, September 24-26, 2019): Conference “Effect of Fiber Placement Threads on Carbon / Epoxy Composite Impact Resistance”.

• CDCQ-RICQ Symposium (Drummondville, November 6, 2019): Technical embroidery at the service of manufacturing “net-shape” parts in composite materials.
