E430-101 – Writing a textile specification

Who is this course for?

This training is aimed at buyers, specifications writers, as well as professionals who regularly work with textile technical specifications to verify or ensure product conformity.

Prerequisite

Know the technical vocabulary of textiles: fibers, yarns, knitting, woven, non-woven, understand the production chain of textile materials, and have a basic knowledge on textile characterization tests.

Content

  • Concepts and definitions of test methods: “home-made” tests, standard test methods, and specifications.
  • Identification and differences between standardization bodies, certification bodies and testing laboratories.
  • Identification of relevant information in a specification and choice of appropriate tests.
  • Definition of target values ​​and acceptability criteria.
  • Collection of field data and laboratory data.
  • Simulate product use to anticipate durability.
  • Frequency of testing and specifications updates.
  • Practical exercise: choice of the appropriate test based on the properties sought in a textile product.
  • Practical exercise: selection of tests for two textile products based on their final application.
